What's it all about?

The Prahran Market has a variety of stalls and shops selling fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and deli foods, as well as cafes. The market is not open on Mondays and Wednesdays (Sundays has selected traders only).
Prahran Market is known as "the food lover's market" because of the quality and range of the food on sale. Prahran Market is the only market in Melbourne to have a dedicated Market Square where the community enjoy performances, cafes and a children's playground.
Sustainability Initiatives include:
- Awarded bronze Waste Wise certification in July 2011 from the Metropolitan Waste Management Group, recognising commitment to ongoing improvement in sustainability practices in waste minimisation and resource efficiency.
- Fresh food which would have gone to landfill is collected by SecondBite and redistributed to 70 agencies and thousands of people who are homeless or living in disadvantaged circumstances.
- Organic collection and recycling of fish offal, chicken, fat and bone - roughly 180 tonne annually – is taken off-site for processing into in animal foods, fertilisers, pressed for oils. Fat and Bone - at least 3750 tonnes a week is processed into animal foods.
- Cardboard collection and recycling.
- 90 tonnes of Cardboard annually (7 tonnes a week). This is then recycled into other products. We also recycle our office paper and air-conditioning filters.
- Polystyrene/EPS collection and recycling, processed into house slabs and used in the building industry.
- Cooking Oil collection and recycling, processed into bio fuels.
